Why Jarvis Johnson?

Who Are We?

Why would anyone decide to set up a niche agency for Food Manufacturers when there are so many other industries to choose from? 


For our Founder, Lisa Godfrey there wasn’t a moment’s hesitation.


Her passion has always been for this industry. After completing her Food Science degree, she worked in Permanent and Interim QA and Technical Management roles in Food Manufacturing and Retail. 


After years of struggling to hire the right people using direct recruitment and generalist agencies, it became clear that there was a more streamlined way of doing things. 


This set her on a path to set up Jarvis Johnson in 1999, where Technical, QA and Development roles are given the focus they deserve, not simply an add-on.

About The Team

All recruitment is handled by experienced consultants, not recent graduates or admin staff.


Lisa Marie Godfrey, our MD,  previously worked as a Food industry Technical Manager. She completed her degree in Food Scientist then had a successful career in Quality and Technical Management with Bakkavor and The Co-op. Prior to setting up Jarvis Johnson she had hands-on experience as an Interim Technical Manager.  


Liz Harrison, our Recruitment Manager has been with Jarvis Johnson since 2018, having previously honed her relationship skills as a National Account Manager with Carlsberg


Melissa Teece  has built brilliant relationships with our candidates over the years and has been with Jarvis Johnson since 2021, building 1st Class Technical and NPD Teams 


Having such a wealth of industry understanding ensures that vacancy briefs are taken and candidates are screened with a genuine understanding of compliance & innovation pressures and the operational realities of audits and customer requirements.

 When Jarvis Johnson was set up in 1999 there were much fewer agencies specialising in Food Manufacturing. We were able to make an impact really quickly as we were offering a pioneering service quickly sourcing Technical and NPD Interims to support Food Manufacturers with audit preparation – there was a great demand for this as BRC Glo

We were able to make an impact really quickly as we were offering a pioneering service quickly sourcing Technical and NPD Interims to support Food Manufacturers with audit preparation – there was a great demand for this as BRC Global Food Standard Issue 1 had come out the year before in 1998!  


Fast forward to 2025 and the landscape is completely different (although the number 1 reason our clients tell us they need Interim Technical resource is still for for pre- and post- BRC Audit prep!). Our services now encompass supporting both permanent and interim candidate placement. These days there are now more recruitment agencies active in the Food Manufacturing space but as you will see if you have a quick scroll through other agency websites, we are STILL the only recruitment agency whose niche is in Technical, QA and Development.

We are not the biggest agency around. But we can guarantee when you speak t any of our team you will be doing with someone with Longevity, Professionalism and Sector Knowledge, not graduates who didn’t know their HACCP from their TACCP 6 months ago! Our clients tell us they like the personal, almost family service that we consistently deliver. Whilst our team is compact, our network is huge, with our database having  13,000 registered specialists in Technical, QA and Development – across the whole of the UK. 

On average 60% of our placements are made from connections we already have, the 13000 professionals already registered with us. Our database really is a goldmine! However,  we don’t rest on our laurels and just rely on our heritage brand, in 2024 we invested in new technology which  maps out companies local to a particular site and helps us to identify “hidden” candidates – this has proved particularly successful for Food and Drink companies who have run their own advertising campaigns and found it hard to attract local talent. We know that successful placement and retention is heavily tied into finding great local candidates as relocation inherently presents its own set of challenges. .
